Firefighters Union Calls for City to Hire Chief from Within, Adds Commission Endorsement

Covington firefighters union Local 38 has called on City Hall to hire the city's new fire chief from within instead looking elsewhere. Former Chief Chuck Norris retired over the summer and Dan Mathew has been acting chief since. This is the message from Local 38 sent out via Facebook:

Attention Citizens of Covington!!! City Administration is currently pursuing candidates from outside of the city for the Covington Fire Department Chief's position. We need your support for the two candidates from inside the Covington Fire Department that are in the running for the fire chief's position: Acting Fire Chief Dan Mathew and Captain Chris Black. Let the city hear your support for these two excellent and experienced firemen!!

Chris Black is president of the International Association of Firefighters Local 38. The union also updated its list of endorsements for Covington City Commission adding candidate Michelle Williams to the list. The union had previously endorsed Chuck Eilerman, Mildred Rains, and retired firefighter Alan "Chip" Terry who is running as a write-in candidate. The union also announced its endorsement of Democrat Bill Adkins in the 4th District Congressional race.
