Teen Pleads Guilty in Covington Murder Case
A Covington teen has pleaded guilty to the December 2011 shooting death of 18-year old Brett Thornberry. Romello Rice, 16, announced that decision in Kenton County Circuit Court Monday afternoon, according to Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders. "Rice agreed to testify against other participants in the crime in exchange for a recommended sentence of twenty years in prison," Sanders reported via Twitter.
Thornberry was found shot to death in the late evening hours of December 20, 2011 behind a house on the 1000 block of Greenup Street. The house was also the scene of the gruesome 2009 slaying of Shawn Davis. Rice and another teen were the first arrested in the case. In August, Chris Hill, 22, was also arrested in Cincinnati in connection to the crime.
Rice was charged with complicity to murder and robbery, charges that carry the same penalties as robbery and murder.
