Heat Advisory in Effect Friday, Highs in 80s Next Week

A heat advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. Friday in Covington and Northern Kentucky.

While official temperatures are expected to remain in in the 90s, the heat index, or what it feels like outside, will be over 100.

The situation is caused by persistent high pressure over the Ohio River Valley which will finally begin to shift southeast later today. However, hot and humid conditions will continue for one more day as the airmass remains unchanged, the National Weather Service reports.

The heat index values will rise into the upper nineties by noon and will peak around 102 later Friday.

A cold front will push into the region on Saturday bringing showers and thunderstorms with some possibly reaching severe limits with damaging winds being the primary threat, the NWS reports.

High temperatures next week are expected to be in the upper eighties.
