Tidbits: Lawmaker Fires Gun at Capitol; Trapdoor Lands Woman in Jail

These are some stories making headlines around Kentucky:

Lawmaker fires gun at Capitol

It took only a few hours after the Kentucky General Assembly returned to work in Frankfort before gunfire was involved.

State Rep. Leslie Combs (D-Pikeville) says she accidentally discharged her handgun in her office on Wednesday:

“I’m a gun owner. It happens,” she said Wednesday, adding that she was following safety precautions as she unloaded her Ruger 380 semi-automatic handgun. No one was injured.

Combs said she has a concealed carry permit, allowing her to carry the gun, which she said she often carries in her purse.

Kentucky State Police Sgt. Jason Palmer, who heads the legislative security unit, said Combs accidentally fired the gun once about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Room 373 of the annex.

Trapdoor lands Louisville woman in jail

Louisville Police discovered a trapdoor in a woman's home and that landed the woman in jail, because:

Police were searching Deller's bedroom when they allegedly found a "trap door" that led to the cellar, where they discovered "a clandestine marijuana grow operation," according to the arrest report.

Police say the marijuana was in the "final stage" of the grow process, and the grow operation was built of concrete blocks and consisted of a "secret room" containing  separate ventilation and electricity, powering grow lamps and dryer motors.

Ninja Star-throwing range to open in Lexington

It's dinner and a throw!

In what is either the best or worst idea ever, a Lexington, Kentucky entrepreneur plans to open Ninjas Throwing Star Range, a throwing star range replete with a fully stocked sake bar, in April of this year.

Owner Satou Watanabe was on holiday in Japan when we reached out for details, but he directed us to manager Timothy San Bernardino, who assures us that Ninjas is definitely not a gimmick.

"Think of it like your typical American bar where you can drink and throw darts," says San Bernardino. "This is the same."

Are we due for a "Ninja Star" incident at the Kentucky State Capitol next?
