From Pop-Up Shop to Permanent: Kelley's Kloset to Open in Covington
One of the successful pop-up shops from the holiday shopping season is opening a more permanent location on Madison Avenue in Downtown Covington.
Kelley's Kloset is set to open on February 15.
It scored the corner location at the Mutual Building during the city's holiday pop-up market, an initiative that featured three shops in the vacant building. It did so well, the pop-ups will return next year.
Kelley's Kloset is operated by Michael Kelley and Russ Shirley, proprietors of nearby Home Style, also on Madison Avenue. The new shop will focus on fashion and accessories at low prices.
In an interview with The River City News in November, previewing the pop-up market, Kelley said that he hoped to turn Kelley's Kloset into a permanent endeavor.
"We love it down here," Kelley said at the time. "Other business owners were coming in and being overly welcoming and were so happy we were down here."
"We really like it."
The opening of Kelley's Kloset marks the second consecutive year that a pop-up shop opened a permanent location in Covington following the holiday push.
Errika Gray operated District 78 as a pop-up during Christmas 2012 before opening her location on Pike Street.
Kelley's Kloset will operate at 506 Madison Avenue, a space most recently occupied by a computer repair shop.
