Two Dozen Now Arrested in Covington on Heroin, Drug Charges
At least twenty-three people have been arrested in Covington on drug-related charges, mostly involving heroin, Police Chief Spike Jones said Tuesday night.
On Thursday, Covington Police were joined by the FBI, the Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney Office, the Kentucky Department of Corrections, and others in a large city-wide search, involving helicopters and multiple units of investigators working at the same time, to track down sixty suspected drug dealers, mostly involving heroin.
At least ten were captured on that first day and in the days since, more than a dozen others have been placed behind bars.
"To date we have approximately twenty-three we've apprehended," Jones told the Covington City Commission on Tuesday night. "One turned himself in this morning. He said, 'I heard I was supposed to be in jail' and we were glad to oblige him."
Members of the commission congratulated Jones and the department on the effort.
"We're fortunate to have a lot of talented officers who did a great deal of the legwork," Jones said.
