Thomas More College President Makes Surprise Announcement to Local Scholars

Thomas More College President David Armstrong made a surprise announcement during last week's launch of the NaviGo Scholars program.

Additionally, Armstrong said each of the scholars would have the opportunity to receive a $10,000 scholarship to TMC.

“Through the NaviGo Scholars program, these students will have the opportunity to explore their interests, talents, and passions and we are so honored that Thomas More College has offered to help these students accomplish their dreams,” said Tim Hanner, President of NaviGo College and Career Prep Services.

NaviGo Scholars is a distinctive one-on-one coaching and mentoring program for high school students and represents a unique collaboration involving the leadership of the Northern Kentucky Education Council, the expertise of NaviGo College and Career Prep Services, and the active engagement of five corporate partners ‒ Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing, NA; Duke Energy; Citi; The Bank of Kentucky; and Heritage Bank.

This is the inaugural year for the program and it is already growing. Following the event, Heritage Bank stepped forward to provide an additional scholarship, to bring the total to 34 scholars for the 2014-15 school year. In addition, Mark Exterkamp, Vice President, Bank of Kentucky, announced on Tuesday that they will support five students next year. “We are so grateful to The Bank of Kentucky’s expanded support of NaviGo Scholars along with their long-standing commitment to our Northern Kentucky community,” said Polly Lusk Page, Executive Director of the Northern Kentucky Education Council. “We anticipate that this program will continue to gain momentum and more of our region’s leading businesses will want to step forward to invest in our Scholars. We already know that more of our schools want to be involved and of course we also know that we have many more students who will qualify to become a scholar.”
