Monte Casino to Get Neighborhood Sign

The Monte Casino neighborhood will celebrate a newly crafted welcoming sign on Sunday.

Neighborhood representative Jennifer Kroger Ward said, "We are very proud of all of the work we have put in."

According to Ms. Kroger Ward, Terry Bond came up with the drawing that will become the sign; Marc Cook has been working with the Center for Great Neighborhoods and the City to get the approval for the sign and location. Carl Fox, Tom Dorning and Ms. Kroger Ward were also on the Sign Committee to finalize the concept and bring about the eventual installation. The sign will be installed by its neighbors.

Tate Builders Supply in Erlanger gave the sign committee special pricing to be able to buy the material and Dutch Quality Stone donated the stone.

The sign will be near the top of Benton Road just before the turn for Janes Lane.

Covington neighborhood signs have been a popular way for most of Covington's 19 neighborhoods to exhibit community pride. These works of art reflect the collaborative spirit of the community.

In the early 2000s Jackie Slone and Rosemarie Topie partnered to create Meme Mosaics, a creative firm that designed and crafted many of the mosaic signs seen today throughout the City, including the sculpture on the corner of Madison Avenue and Seventh Street.

A few years ago, the Helentown Neighborhood Association saw neighborhood resident and artist Laura Knight design and construct the Helentown sign with the help of a committee.
