Covington Offers Home Repair Assistance
Homeowners in Covington may be eligible to receive assistance to help address problems with sewer laterals, furnaces or roof patches, thanks to a new program created by the Housing Development Office, part of the City's Department of Development.
The Program will be offered on a first come, first served basis while funding is available with a maximum of $5,000 per award. The program's total pool of available funds is $50,000.
Half of the program funds aim to provide assistance toward furnace or roof repair. Priority will be given to those applicants considered to be veterans, disabled or elderly. The remaining funds will provide applicants with assistance for sewer lateral repairs. The City will cover the cost of street restoration; the homeowner will be responsible for cost of the sidewalk restoration.
Applicants are allowed to submit a completed application packet with required supporting documentation beginning on September 1, 2014 in person from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Covington City Hall located at 20 West Pike Street.
Jeremy Wallace, CDBG/HOME Program Coordinator, says, "It is recommended that applications are submitted in person as near to this date as possible because funds are limited and will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis."
The review process can take up to thirty days.
