Sports Briefs: Holmes Soccer Continues to Roll & More

COLLEGE

Football

Thomas More 45, Hanover 16

Thomas More football exploded for 600 yards of total offense as the Saints notched their first win of the season, 45-16 over non-conference rival, Hanover College. Senior tailback Domonique Hayden finished the game with 166 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Receiver Ryan Winkler caught six passes for 116 receiving yards and a score. Thomas More (1-1) stays on the road next week as they head to Greenville, Pennsylvania to play Thiel College September 20 at 1pm.

Soccer

NKU (M) 1, IPFW 1

NKU men's soccer played to a 1-1 draw against IPFW on Sunday at home. The Norse goal came from Caleb Eastham who scored early in the match at the 8-minute mark. Goalkeeper A.J. Fleak had five saves but did allow the tying goal on a penalty kick in the 65th minute. The Norse are now 1-1-3 on the year and travel to take on another Indiana team, IUPUI on Sunday, September 21 in Indianapolis.

NKU (W) 2, Robert Morris 1

NKU women's soccer is off to a nice start on the year as they won their third match of the season after defeating Robert Morris 2-1 over the weekend. The first goal for the Norse was an equalizer by Katelyn Newton who headed the ball into the net at the 83rd minute, tying the score 1-1. Then in overtime, Sami Rutowski scored the go-ahead goal in overtime, giving the Norse the advantage they needed. NKU is now 3-1-2 on the year and take on Butler Wednesday night at 7pm.

Thomas More (W) 5, Manchester 0

Freshman Julia Flagge-Echols had two goals for Thomas More as they routed visiting Manchester, 5-0 on Sunday afternoon. Also with Saints goals were Laura Felix, Sam Work, Taylor Robinson and Emily Sanker. The Saints remain a perfect 6-0 on the season and are ranked 10th in Division III women's soccer.

HIGH SCHOOL

Soccer

Holmes 4, Owen County 0

Holmes remains undefeated on the season at 4-0-1 as they crushed visiting Owen Co. 4-0 on Saturday. Senior David Lemus scored three goals and goalkeeper Logan Daniel recorded his second shutout of the season. The Bulldogs take on Newport Central Catholic on Tuesday night in their first conference game of the year.

VOLLEYBALL

Scott def. Newport Central Catholic, 25-14, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21

Scott earned double-digit victories on the year when they defeated Newport Central Catholic 25-14, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21. Scott is now 10-3 on the season and take on Simon Kenton on Tuesday.
