The second granddaughter, a college student on winter break, was home though.

"He broke in," Ruth said. "The granddaughter who came in from college was downstairs in the bedroom there. He got a hold of her. He wanted her to tell him where his ex-girlfriend was. She wouldn't. He tried to get her phone so he could call and his ex would think that's his sister calling."

Unthank ran off and eluded authorities for nearly 24 hours.

Baumgardner was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence with minor injuries and has since returned home. Family members say one of her granddaughters was also injured and was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

The home on Ten Mile Road is being used as a special needs daycare, according to a woman whose adult daughter is cared for there.
