Wounded Man Leaves Scene of Shooting

A man was shot in Covington Wednesday night and while witnesses say he was seriously injured, the victim managed to flee the scene.

Covington Police responded to West 9th Street at Perry Street in Mainstrasse Village just after 9 p.m. after receiving reports of shots being fired.

Officers on the scene were not authorized to talk to the media, but witnesses told The River City News that a black or Middle Eastern man was shot by a gun fired from a moving vehicle that fled west on Ninth toward the Interstate. Two other witnesses said that they saw a man standing on the sidewalk fire a gun twice at another man.

The victim, lying on the ground, asked to enter one witness's home but when refused, he took off on Perry Street and was not found.

Officers searched the neighborhood and were checking with St. Elizabeth Hospital in case the man showed up there to be treated for his injuries.

A bullet also struck a parked car.

The shooting remains under investigation and The River City News will offer updates as soon as more information is known. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or email us.
