Man Gets 30 Years for Murder of Baby
A man who accepted a special type of guilty plea in the murder of his girlfriend's newborn baby will spent the next three decades behind bars.
Robert Schierer, 25, was sentenced in Kenton County Circuit Court on Tuesday by Judge Patrica Summe. He accepted an Alford plea in March, meaning that he maintained his innocence but admitted that the Commonwealth's Attorney Office had enough evidence to convict him.
Defense attorneys asked for the minimum of 20 years but Summe sided with Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders and assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Kate Bennett in handing down a 30 year sentence.
Schierer was accused of killing his girlfriend's 8-week old baby in November 2013 inside a Crescent Springs home.
Erlanger Police Detective Amy Schworer led the criminal investigation.
