Thomas More Junior Named Conference Player of the Year

Thomas More College junior designated hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Year and 11 Saints were named All-PAC by the conference’s nine head coaches.

Pogue led the team in batting with a .450 average a he was 67-of-149 at the plate. He had a team-leading seven home runs, 55 RBI and 13 doubles to go with 25 base-on-balls, a .678 slugging percentage and a .538 on-base percentage.

Pogue was also named first team All-PAC along with freshman second baseman Ben Laumann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and sophomore right fielder Ben Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder). Laumann batted .358 with one home run, nine doubles and 21 RBI to go with a .444 on-base percentage and .467 slugging percentage. Kenning was second on the team in batting with a .402 average with 49 RBI, two home runs, two triples and 13 doubles. He had a .538 slugging percentage and a .944 fielding percentage.

Senior first baseman Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), junior pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) and junior pitcher Brandon Humphrey (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) were named second team All-PAC. Connor was third on the team in batting with a .373 average with two home runs 19 doubles and 28 RBI. Miller had a 2.64 earned run average and a 6-2 record in 61.1 innings pitched. He had two complete games and 29 strike outs. Humphrey had a team-leading 1.95 ERA and a 6-1 record with four complete games in 60 innings pitched. He had a team-best 46 strike outs and gave up only 13 earned runs on the year.

Freshman third baseman Bailey Abbatiello (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle), sophomore center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), junior left fielder Zach Fardo (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart), senior catcher Brad Popham (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) and sophomore pitcher Ken Ruberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) were named honorable mention All-PAC. Abbatiello had a .318 batting average with two home runs, one triple, 11 doubles and 25 RBI. Metzger had a .331 average with three triples, eight doubles and 29 RBI. Fardo hit .311 with two home runs, seven doubles, 32 RBI and 27 runs scored. Popham hit .314 with two triples, 12 doubles, 28 RBI and had .972 fielding percentage behind the plate. Ruberg set a single-season school record with 23 appearances and had a 2.58 ERA with a 4-2 record to go with six saves in 38.1 innings pitched.

The Saints finished the season with a 30-12 record, including an 18-6 mark in the PAC. Thomas More won the PAC regular-season and finished runner-up in the PAC Championship Tournament.
