Photos: Maifest Celebrates 36th Year in Covington
The 36th Annual Maifest kicked off last evening in Covington's Mainstrasse Village to mark the unofficlal start of the summer season. RCN photographer Brian Frey was at the festival last night and took some great shots of the celebration.
What's new this year? Intimate stage settings where bands will rock all weekend long and craft beer gardens where visitors can sit back and enjoy the shows. The music choices this year run the gamut of folk rock, Americana, jazz, alternative country, blues, rockabilly, gypsy jazz, acoustic, contemporary, and traditional German.
There will also be a new Braxton Brewery light feature on the Carroll Chimes Bell Tower in Goebel Park tonight from dark till 11 p.m.
Maifest fills six city blocks along the Sixth Street Promenade and features more than 75 booths of food, drinks, crafts, and other vendors. There is also plenty for the kids to do with the Amusement Midway on the Fifth Street parking lot and a Covington Fire Safety House across from the Kinderplatz amusement park in Goebel Park.
Today, the annual Chalk Art Contest returns to Main Street.
