Wild Carrot to Perform at Devou Park

Promising a one-of-a-kind evening of American Roots melodies, Wild Carrot and friends will swing into Devou Park on Thursday, June 4, with a potpourri of instruments, including guitar, dulcimer, mandolin, concertina, fiddle, bass and vocals, playing everything from blues to bluegrass, country to Celtic, and traditional to original songs.

Wild Carrot consists of the husband and wife team of Pam Temple and Spencer Funk, with the “roots” part of the ensemble adding Suzanna Barnes and Andrew Williams. Wild Carrot began performing together full-time in 2000. They have been voted Best Folk Act and nominated for Artist of the Year by Cincinnati Entertainment Awards, and have twice served as cultural ambassadors to Chile with the U.S. State Department.

When asked where the name of their group came from, Wild Carrot points to the botanical name daucus carota, commonly called Queen Anne’s lace.

“Our music has been described as being rooted in the solid earth of tradition and untainted by commercialism; strong while displaying a delicate intricacy, like Queen Anne's lace.”

The concert, presented by Behringer-Crawford Museum (BCM), will take place outdoors, weather permitting, in the BCM amphitheater at 1600 Montague Road in Devou Park in Covington. Gates open at 6 p.m., with the performance running from 7 to 9 p.m.

Admission to the Wild Carrot and Their Roots concert is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12. Special children’s activities, including crafts, games and face-painting, will be offered free to BCM members and for a small fee for future members. Adult beverages and food will be available for purchase.

The next [email protected] concert, “Beer ‘n’ Brass,” featuring the Brass Fellowship, takes place on Thursday, June 11. The series continues each Thursday evening June 18-25 and July 9-August 13.
