Independence Couple Killed in Scott Co. Crash
A couple from Independence were killed on Sunday while changing a tire on the side of the road.
Timothy Wayne Cantrell, 70, and Susan Cantell, 63, were identified as the victims by the Scott County County Coroner.
According to WTVQ, the Scott County Sheriff's Office reported the accident as having taken place on I-75 northbound near mike marker 130. The Cantrells were in a classic car on the shoulder of the road when two vehicles lost control and hit them.
The Georgetown News-Graphic reported that Timothy Cantrell was struck by an out-of-control vehicle while standing outside of this antique Plymouth; the couple's vehicle then struck Susan Cantrell. Both died at the scene.
"You can definitely tell that two vehicles lost control. You can tell at least one of them made contact with the red vehicle because of the paint transfer on the vehicle. You can see the red on the vehicle. From proceeding, that's the point where we don't know as far as this investigation. We don't know what caused them to lose control," Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton told WKYT.
According to reports, Timothy Cantrell was a retired firefighter.
Several others were injured in the crash including one who was transported to the hospital by helicopter.
