Largest Crowd in NKY Yet for Cincy Sundaes Pitch Competition

178 people filled Braxton Brewery for the latest round of Cincy Sundaes -- the local pitch competition where groups and entrepreneurs hope to receive the money raised as the audience noshes on ice cream.
$1,790 was the total between the dollars raised at the door and the match by People's Liberty, a philanthropic lab based in Over-the-Rhine that brings together civic-minded talent to address challenges and uncover opportunities to accelerate the positive transformation of Greater Cincinnati.
There were four groups vying for the cash:
Heartfelt Tidbits assists refugees and immigrants with adjusting to life, and becoming self-sufficient in the U.S. Some projects in the works are sewing fabric bags for produce, weaving blankets made out of grocery bags for the homeless, and a 4 acre community garden.
Spring In Our Step has a focus on alley cleanup projects providing wooden pallets to artists to create vivid signs for the alleys.
First Annual NKY Kite Festival - This event will be held at the flood wall in Dayton and will be a circus-like event with clowns, mimes, and possibly the Shriners. The event will include food trucks, live music, and free kite giveaways the day of the event. Organizers are also hoping to have a couple professional kite flying teams at the event and would also like to provide kite making kits to local kids to involve as many people as possible. Target date is in October.
Soup Cycle is a woman who rides a trike with soup kettles on the back giving out soup to the less fortunate. The opportunity gives kids and adults the chance to eat healthier foods. Local chefs make the soup and get a lot of the produce from grocery stores that are going to discard fruits and vegetables with minor blemishes that they would normally throw away.
The crowd voted to award the funds to Heartfelt Tidbits.
