NKU Men's Soccer Team Releases 2015 Schedule

The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team released its 2015 schedule on Tuesday afternoon. Along with the Norse's inaugural run in the Horizon League, the 2015 slate includes matches against strong conferences, league champions and 2014 College Cup participants.

"This is a very challenging schedule from top to bottom, especially for a program in its final year of transition to NCAA Division I," head coach John Basalyga said. "Entering Horizon League this season, we'll see a new level of competition, also throw in teams from Conference USA and the American Athletic Conference, in addition to conference champions; every match will be a challenge. I always try to put together a tough schedule. I am really looking forward to this one."

The Norse begin action against in-state foe and 2014 College Cup participant Kentucky out of Conference USA in a home exhibition match on August 16 at 7 p.m. NKU faced the Wildcats during the 2014 preseason at home battling to a 0-0 draw before a record crowd at the NKU Soccer Stadium.

NKU then opens the regular season facing two teams from the American Athletic Conference in back-to-back games. The Norse will cross the river to face Cincinnati on August 28 before traveling south to face Memphis on August 31.

The Norse will hit the road for six road games in the month of September, beginning with two matches at the May's Cup 2015, hosted by Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. At the tournament, NKU will square off with 2014 Northeastern Conference regular-season champion St. Francis University on September 4, followed by 2014 College Cup participant Bucknell on September 6. After a road match on against IPFW on September 13, the Norse will travel to Dayton for a showdown with the Flyers on September 18.

NKU begins its inaugural run in the Horizon League on September 22 on the road facing regional rival Wright State, followed by league foe Detroit on September 26. The Norse will close out the month in a conference showdown with Belmont on September 30.

NKU returns home, hosting the 2014 Horizon League champion and College Cup participant Oakland, on October 3 before hitting the road for a league match with Cleveland State on October 7. The Norse will then face two conference rivals at home, beginning with the UIC on October 10 followed by Valparaiso on October 17.

The Norse then take a break from conference action to face Eastern Illinois in a road match on October 21 before resuming league play at home against Green Bay on October 24 and closing out their home schedule against IUPUI on October 28.

NKU will play its final regular-season match on the road, facing Evansville on November 3 followed by its regular-season finale against conference foe Milwaukee. The Horizon League tournament is then set to begin on November 9.
