The kynect online system allows Kentucky residents to compare and select insurance plans and find out if they qualify for programs like Medicaid or the Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance Program. Full open enrollment for 2016 plans will be held from November 1 through January 31, 2015. Through November 1, enrollment is open for individuals who are eligible for Medicaid or those who have a qualifying event, such as a job change, birth, etc. Visit http://www.kynect.ky.gov to find out when your family is eligible to enroll.

More than 100,000 Kentuckians have enrolled in Medicaid or qualified health plans.

“At the Health Department, we are charged with promoting and protecting the health of our community,” said Lynne M. Saddler, MD, MPH. “Having access to health care coverage is an important step towards being healthier, giving people the opportunity to take steps to prevent disease and better manage chronic health problems. We have been working to promote kynect enrollment since it launched in October 2013, and having an enrollment specialist on staff and in our health centers regularly is a way for us to serve as a gateway to health coverage.”

By using kynect, individuals may receive payment assistance, special discounts or tax credits to help cover the costs of coverage. The kynect system can provide discounted rates on health coverage for families with a variety of incomes. For example, kynect discounts for a family of four extend all the up to those earning $91,000 per year.
