When Notre Dame Academy returned for its first day of class last week, the girls had the opportunity to meet the school's first male principal.
Jack Vonhandorf accepted the position in April and took over July 1.
"I am thrilled to be part of this premier Catholic high school providing excellent academic and co-curricular programs that prepare graduates to be outstanding female leaders serving our world," VonHandorf said. "This is truly an opportunity of a life-time for me personally and professionally."
While some may question the decision to hire a man as the principal of an all-girl school, the NDA community has been promoting gender equality in the workplace since the Sisters of Notre Dame founded Notre Dame Academy in 1906. NDA students have no doubts that Mr. VonHandorf is the right "person" for the job. The enthusiasm and positive energy at the school's first assembly proved that.
NDA President Dr. Laura Koehl remarked, "We are truly blessed to have Mr. VonHandorf on board as our new Principal! I know he has felt very welcomed by everyone at NDA."
