Highland Heights Named 7th Safest College Town in America
Highland Heights, home to Northern Kentucky University, is the seventh safest college town in America, according to Safewise.
The Utah-based security and crime prevention firm used FBI crime statistics as well as research about crime prevention efforts to compile its rankings.
“The safety of our campus community is our top priority,” said University Police Chief Les Kachurek. “We work closely with our partners in Highland Heights to provide a safe and welcoming environment in which to live, study, work and visit.”
Safewise praised efforts by the Highland Heights Police Department to educate and inform the community. It also praised the University Police Department for its outreach to the campus community.
“The university also makes a concerted effort to reach out to its community members,” the firm wrote in its analysis. “The university police’s Community Relations Team, for example, involves students, faculty, and staff by conducting safety workshops and presentations, and integrating citizens into its planning and implementation processes.”
In 2014, Safewise also named Highland Heights the 11th safest city in Kentucky for its low rates of violent and property crimes.
