Close the Deal: Covington Mayor, Dayton Vice Mayor, NKY Biz Leader Speak at Holmes
Holmes High School celebrated its third annual Close the Deal event on Thursday with remarks from Covington Mayor Sherry Carran, Dayton Vice Mayor (and 1996 Holmes graduate) Ben Baker, and Fidelity Investments' Kevin Canafax.
The day-long event, created by former Lt. Governor Jerry Abramson, focuses on helping seniors at the school continue towards graduation and on to college.
Seniors participate in 20-minute table talks with college admissions officers, financial aid specialists, current college students, and local business leaders.
Twenty colleges were on hand at Holmes on Thursday.
Over the last two years, 98 percent of Holmes seniors applied to college and completed financial aid applications. More than 2/3 were accepted to at least one college and have earned $3 million in scholarships over two years.
