Pair Arrested After Confessing to Stealing Church Safe
Two men are behind bars after confessing to stealing a safe from a church, the Boone County Sheriff's Office reported.
A Burlington resident contacted police when flashlights were seen in an unoccupied residence nearby. Deputies responded and found a pickup truck, flashlights, a demolished safe, and ultimately, Karl Bednarik, 18, and Andrew Mason, 19, hiding in the brush.
Bedarik, of Norton, Ohio, and Mason, of Medina, Ohio, are charged with 3rd degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, tampering with physical evidence, and 3rd degree criminal trespass.
The safe belonged to Sand Run Baptist Church on North Bend Road in Hebron. According to the sheriff's office, the men admitted to breaking into the church at around 1:30 a.m. and removing the safe. They also broke into an unattached building and stole tools (hammer and crowbar) to break into the safe. They then drove to Idlewild Road where the safe was cracked.
Both are being held at the Boone Co. Detention Center.
