Moss Records Triple-Double, Leads TMC to Win

Senior guard/forward Sydney Moss recorded her third double-double of the season today to lead the No. 1-ranked Thomas More College women’s basketball team to a 79-52 win over Saint Vincent College in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Carey Center in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

With the win the Saints improve to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in the PAC. The win also improves Thomas More’s PAC winning streak to 83 games as its last loss was a 68-65 loss to Saint Vincent on January 14, 2012 in Latrobe. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 7-8 overall and 2-6 in the PAC.

Saint Vincent jumped out to an early 12-9 lead when Susie Ellis made a lay-up with 4:13 to play in the first quarter. The Saints answered with a 6-2 run to take a 15-14 lead with 2:26 to play in the opening quarter when Moss made a jumper. The Bearcats closed out the first quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 20-17 lead after one quarter when Katie Ryan made a lay-up.

Thomas More opened the second quarter on a 21-6 run capped by a lay-up by junior forward Kirsten Paul to take a 38-26 lead with 25-seconds to play in the quarter. Saint Vincent’s Lucy Bujdos made a three-pointer with 11-seconds to play in the quarter to cut the Saints’ lead to 38-29 at halftime.

The Saints opened the third quarter on a 19-5 run to extend the lead to 57-34 with 20-seconds to play in the quarter when Moss made a three-pointer. Jasmine Weems made a three-pointer with five-seconds to play in the third quarter to cut the Saints’ lead to 57-37 after three quarters.

Thomas More outscored Saint Vincent, 22-15 in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 79-52 victory.

Moss completed her double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds to go with her game-high seven assists. Joining Moss in double-figure scoring was freshman guard Madison Temple with 18 points and sophomore guard Abby Owings with 11 points. Sophomore guard Nikki Kiernan led the team in blocks with three.

The Saints return to action on Wednesday when they host Chatham University at 5:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills.
