Carnegie Announces Exciting 2016-17 Theatre Season -- And It Looks Great!
The Carnegie’s 2016-2017 theater season promises a big opening with celebration of ‘80s hits Rock of Ages, a collaboration with Northern Kentucky University’s Commonwealth Theatre Company. Also on the line-up are the go-with-girlfriends Love, Loss and What I Wore and beloved musical great The Music Man.
The fourth show in spring 2017 will be announced in the future.
The announcement coincides with this weekend’s opening of The Wizard of Oz. Subscriptions go on sale Feb. 2.
The 2016-2017 season:
Rock of Ages, Aug. 13-28. It’s classic boy-meets-girl, set at the end of the ‘80s. Drew is an aspiring rock star working at a bar when he meets Sherrie, L.A. newbie seeking fame and fortune as an actress. Follow their trials and tribulations through a rock anthem song-list that includes “Hit Me with your Best Shot,” “Sister Christian,” “We Built this City”, and lots more.
Love, Loss and What I Wore, Nov. 5-20. The best-seller was adapted for the stage by Delia and Nora Ephron (Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, and You’ve Got Mail) who know just bout everything about funny and sad contemporary romance. .
The play explores the lives of women through 28 interwoven characters who share their memories of love and loss as framed through the clothes they wore. From prom dresses to miniskirts, the female obsession with black, and the hunt for the perfect purse.
The Music Man, Jan. 21-30. “Seventy- Six Trombones,” “The Well Fargo Wagon,” “Til There Was You.” Who doesn’t love Meredith Willson’s just about perfect musical set in a turn of the 20th century Iowa town where that rascally con man Harold Hill romances suspicious Marian the Librarian? Of course there will be a boys’ band!
