Photos: New Cath Downs Feisty Newport in OT & Other Scores

Newport Central Catholic has been on cruise control, winning 13 of its last 14 games heading into Friday night's 36th District finals against rival Newport.

But the Wildcats, who entered having lost 8 of their last 10, were not going down without a fight.

The first meeting earlier in the season ended in an 82-42 rout by the 'Breds, but Friday night at Bellevue High School would be different.

The game was back and forth throughout with New Cath maintaining a slim lead before the Wildcats finally took the lead by 4 late in the game. Ultimately, these two rivals ended up in overtime where New Cath was able to establish an early cushion and hold on for the 85-79 win.

Both teams head to the 9th Region tournament. New Cath has the region's best record at 25-4 while Newport falls to 17-14.
