Third Candidate Enters Campbell District Judge Race
A third candidate has entered the race for Campbell District Judge.
Abigail "Abby" Voelker will file to replace retiring Judge Gregory Popovich who has held the seat since 1993. She joins Newport City Commissioner John Hayden and Assistant Campbell County Attorney Cameron Blau on the November ballot.
Voelker is a resident of Cold Spring and has lived in Campbell County her whole life. She is a 1998 graduate of Campbell County High School and received her undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky and her law degree at Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University.
In a news release, Voelker cited her vision, heart, and experience as traits that will set her apart as a candidate for district judge.
She owns a private practice that specializes in many areas of the law, including civil, criminal, family, and probate. In the course of her practice, Abby has handled a variety of cases in district court, making her uniquely qualified to represent the residents of Campbell County as District Judge, she said.
In addition to her experience, Voelker seeks to bring new ideas to the bench, ensuring that all people appearing before her experience fairness and justice, she said. In her campaign announcement, Voelker noted that she is dedicated to working with the current judges in combating the ever-growing heroin epidemic in the community.
