Young Musicians Highlight Bellevue Board of Education Meeting
Students from Grandview Elementary's third grade class gave a mini concert for the board members Wednesday night at the regular school board meeting held at Bellevue High School. The quartet was under the guidance of two high school students, Madison Clark and Kelsey Hayward, who thought up the idea of choosing four students and coaching them on string instruments, and then putting the whole plan into action to showcase their talent.
The quartet (pictured below) was also scheduled to perform at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center on Thursday night for the Excellence in Education program.
The board approved hiring the firm of Barnes, Dennig and Company for the 2015-2016 fiscal year audit for the sum of $15,400 and also approved Roberts Insurance to provide Student Accident insurance for $11.75 per student for a premium total of $8,812.32 for grades preschool through 12.
The board gave the OK for continued participation in Northern Kentucky Cooperative for Educational Services for the following programs: grants, professional development, superintendent roundtable, Phoenix program, and E L Program.
Superintendent Robb Smith was named as Representative to NKCES and Janis Winbigler as the alternate also for the 2016-2017 school year.
Smith read a thank-you card from the seven other school districts that attended the Pop Tour of the Bellevue District on April 14. Every month a different district is featured on the Pop tours through NKCES, and Bellevue's tour featured their instruction, which Smith said is a work in progress. Three elementary classrooms were visited, as well as three high school classes, and visitors were in the district for three hours total. They sent a thank you card for the hospitality and were glad that Bellevue was able to showcase their progress in the instruction program.
Students from Grandview elementary and Bellevue High School were honored as students of the month for community service at the beginning of the meeting.
