Remke to Close Location
Remke Markets announced Monday the closure of another location.
The store at 3240 Highland Avenue in Pleasant Ridge will shut down Saturday, June 25 depending on the liquidation of its current avenue which is set to begin Tuesday, May 31.
“It’s always a difficult decision to close a store, as we are committed to our customers and associates across all of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky,” said Remke President Matthew Remke, in a news release. “We will continue delivering on our promise of a local, neighborhood grocery with exceptional service in a convenient location. There is definitely customer demand for Remke’s neighborhood shopping experience in this very competitive grocery market. I’m genuinely excited about the good things on the horizon, as we remain steadfast in our focus on our loyal customers and valued associates.”
Employees at the Pleasant Ridge location were informed of the decision Monday morning. 54 people work there and each will have the opportunity to meet with Remke's human resources department to explore available positions at other locations. The goal, the company said in its announcement, is to transition as many current employees as possible.
Those who are not able to make the transition to another store will receive outplacement support and eligible associates will receive severance benefits.
Remke, which has closed multiple locations including one in Newport last year, is in the beginning phases of extensive remodels at its Skytop and Taylor Mill locations, investing between $500,000 and $750,000. The company is also exploring e-commerce opportunities, the announcement said.
