About the Grand Marshals
Romaine Austing turned 99 years young on April 8, 2016. She and her husband Bill moved from Newport to Rose Circle in 1956 when Greg was just six years old. Newport’s loss was certainly Park Hills gain as she has been a wonderful resident and neighbor for over 60 years.
Romaine’s career was that of a homemaker dedicating herself to loving and raising a wonderful family. She is always interested and supportive of her neighbors and anything that benefits Park Hills. She especially enjoyed and has fond memories of going out and eating with her luncheon group of friends that consisted of Millie Fangman, Jeane King, Mildred Kreeb, Gloria Kunkemoeller, Betty Read, and Barbara Schulte. Until recently, neighbors were blessed to have the opportunity to interact with Romaine as she walked “9” times around Rose Circle trying to get her “3” miles in each day. This daily regimen obviously served her well!! In addition, Romaine also enjoyed practicing yoga at home where part of the routine was standing on her head against the wall. To this day, she wishes she never stopped doing it.
Gregg started working at BAWAC in Florence at an early age and is still employed there. He thoroughly enjoys his job and hardly ever misses a day of work. Romaine and her family have been strong supporters of BAWAC’s mission over the years.
Gregg’s father Bill instilled in him at an early age his love for sports and classical music. Gregg has acquired an excellent knowledge of classical music and quite a collection of CDs that he enjoys listening to immensely. Gregg reads the paper every day and pays close attention to the sports section, especially the local high school teams when neighborhood athletes are competing.
Romaine and Gregg exemplify the wonderful neighbors that you consistently encounter when you reside in Park Hills and we are very proud and thankful for them.
