Hot Races in Kenton County as Candidates Line Up for City Offices
Kenton County will be busy and exciting on election day this November. With hot races in Covington already underway, new fields joined the fracas all over the county as the year's other filing deadline passed on Tuesday.
Where are the hot spots?
Bromley drew 9 candidates for city council and Independence will have twelve names on the ballot - and two open seats. Taylor Mill will be one to watch this year with seven candidates vying for four seats - including former Mayor Mark Kreimborg whose wife, Debby Kreimborg, is not seeking reelection. Property owner Phil Peace, who has battled the commission for two years trying to have a UDF gas station built, is also on the ballot.
Thirteen people are running in Park Hills, including all six incumbents. Ludlow will also have a competitive race, with eleven candidates running for six seats, two of which are open.
The full list of city candidates is below.
An incumbent member of the Covington Board of Education is not seeking reelection and one former member who lost his seat four years ago wants back on.
After Tuesday's filing deadline, five names will be on the November ballot for three available seats.
Incumbent Joyce Baker is not seeking reelection, but incumbents Glenda Huff and April Frese Brockhoff are. Former member Mike Fitzgerald is on the ballot again and they face newcomers Tom Wherry and Daniele Axtell.
There will also be competitive races in the Erlanger-Elsmere and Kenton County school districts.
Incumbents Jeffrey Miller and Amanda Weiss will face challenger John Christiansen in Erlanger-Elsmere where two will be elected. Diana Tribble Wilson and Sarah Shackelford will face off to fill an unexpired term on the district's board of education.
In Kenton County, incumbent Karen Collins will face challengers Terrie Meister and Bill Schneider in District 1; Carl Wicklund is not challenged in District 2 and Carla Egan has no opponent in District 5.
Races in Ludlow and Beechwood are not competitive this year.
There are multiple competitive races at the city level, in addition to Covington and Erlanger, which had filing deadlines in January.
