Florence Looks to Elsmere for New City Coordinator
The new city coordinator in Florence is Alex Mattingly, the current city administrator in Elsmere.
Florence Mayor Diane Whalen made the announcement on Monday. Mattingly has held the chief administrative position in Elsmere since 2012, and prior to that, he was an assistant city solicitor at Covington City Hall for five years.
“We are pleased that someone of Alex’s experience and reputation will be taking over the reigns as city coordinator," Whalen said. "His time in Elsmere and Covington has provided him a vast amount of experience and knowledge in the workings of city government. While every city is unique, we all share the same dedication to quality city and customer service.”
“I’m excited for the opportunity to help lead Florence and be part of its continued growth and development,” Mattingly said. “It’s an honor to be able to serve the residents and businesses here, and to work with a great city staff.”
Mattingly is a graduate of Brescia University in Owensboro and Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University. He was admitted to the Kentucky Bar Association to practice law in 2007. He is a member of the International City/County Management Association and the Kentucky City/County Management Association. He also serves on the Steinford Toy Foundation Board of Trustees and the Brescia University Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Mattingly will take over in Florence following the retirement of Richard Lunnemann and will begin his duties the week of January 16.
