Law Firm Buys, Renovates Old Bank of Kentucky Headquarters

The large office space in Florence that was once home to the corporate headquarters of the Bank of Kentucky is now owned by a law firm.

Gerner & Kearns Co., LPA, announced Friday that it had purchased and renovated the 25,200 sq. ft. building on Tanners Gate Lane in Florence. The building can be seen from I-75 across from the Florence Mall and is visible to approximately 250,000 cars traveling the highway each day, according to a news release. Bank of Kentucky was purchased by BB&T last year.

The firm said that the move to Florence from Ft. Wright is part of its plans to further its vision to be a prominent law firm and good corporate citizen, and to enhance its presence in Northern Kentucky.

“The time had come to purchase an office building to house not only our employees located in Ft. Wright but also to consolidate employees located in other locations so that everyone could be under one roof thereby increasing our capacity, efficiency and effectiveness” said David Gerner, Managing Partner of Gerner & Kearns, in an announcement. 

Gerner & Kearns currently has 65 employees. Its affiliated title company, PRISM Title & Closing Services, Ltd., which has 22 employees, will be located on the third floor of the building.

The firm decided that the 1980s building was in need of a more contemporary look, so it put together a team of designers and architects, and hired a general contractor to work together to create the new space and modernize the image of the firm. The building now has state-of-the-art technology and high-level security. The firm said that the new image serves as another leap in its evolution and progressive culture.

“We have created a large gathering area equipped with a catering station, high-tech audio/visual equipment and cutting-edge design," Gerner said. "This unique space will create a vibrant atmosphere not only for employee training, meetings and events but will also be available to other businesses and clients to utilize for meetings, seminars and entertainment functions. We believe this is much needed in growing Northern Kentucky as businesses are becoming more progressive in the way they want to present to and entertain their clients.”

Gerner & Kearns Co., L.P.A. was founded in 1987 with a concentration in residential and commercial real estate law.
