The iTheatrics Junior Theater Festival Atlanta is the world’s largest festival for student-driven musical theater programs and a monumental weekend of theatrical fellowship. The 2017 iTheatrics Junior Theater Festival Atlanta united 6,000+ students and educators from 115 educational musical theater groups representing 28 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, New Zealand, South Korea and Australia.
The Moss Dance and Performing Arts Academy students presented selections from The Music Man JR. for educational consultant for iTheatrics, MTI Show Support advisor and member of the 2005 USA Today All Star Teaching team, Cindy Ripley and composer and music director and performer Rob Rokicki (The Lightening Thief; Love, NY).
“The actors performing the lead roles in Moss Dance and Performing Arts Academy had a great command of the stage," Rokicki said. "I found the ensemble works to be wonderfully expressive. This was a great job on a classic show.” Added Ripley, “This cast gave us an incredible performance of a beloved classic musical! River City came alive with the innovative choreography and acting!”
CCM Preparatory Department presented selections from Singin' in the Rain JR. for dancer, choreographer, theatrical producer and Butler University and Anderson University professor Kenny Shepard and the Sally G. Tomlinson Artistic Director of Theatre for Youth and Families at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta Georgia, Rosemary Newcott.
“Outlandish and eccentric ‘Hollywood types’ kept us laughing and smiling with a tribute to Debbie Reynolds and the genre of the film," said Shepard. "Their production was spiritual, touching, and sincere!”
Moss Dance and Performing Arts Ben Mitchell and Ellie O'Hara and CCM Preparatory Department’s Ethan Marx and Tayler Towles were named to the Junior Theater Festival All-Stars, made up of outstanding performers attending the festival. The All-Stars performed a song during the closing ceremony for all 6,000 festival attendees.
