Bulldogs' Season Ends in State Semifinals

They had won five games in a row, nine of their last ten, and sixteen of their last seventeen, but time and gas ran out for the Holmes Bulldogs in the semifinals of the Kentucky Girls Sweet 16 at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights on Saturday.

The Bulldogs played just six to seven players in their first two games, and playing starters for most of the game led to a tired bunch on the floor against Franklin County.

Jaynice Stovall and Tyrah McClendon-Englemon found themselves in early foul trouble, and poor shooting placed Holmes in a big deficit at the half, where Franklin Co. led, 26-13.

Holmes's woes continued in the third quarter, hitting only three of eighteen shots. Franklin Co. went on to win, 51-36, and will face Mercer County in Sunday's state championship game.

The Bulldogs finish their season at 29-6.
