6-Year Old Erlanger Girl Who Battled Brain Tumors, Dies

A 6-year old girl from Erlanger who battled brain tumors has died.

Brooklyn Nicole Smith died in her mother's arms at Cincinnati Children's Hospital on Thursday, the family stated in a post at the Smile For Brooklyn Facebook page. The young girl received media attention during her fight against Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a diagnosis she received just a week after turning 5.

In 2016, The River City News profiled the community's hope for a miracle through a pink ribbon program.

Smith was a student at St. Joseph Academy in Walton.

The family expressed its gratitude to the community for its support and encouraged people to learn more at www.smileforbrooklyn.org.

At this time, we ask all Smile for Brooklyn supporters to send communications through Smile for Brooklyn. Please do not contact Brooklyn’s parents directly during their time of healing.

A visitation is scheduled for Monday at Hebron Lutheran Church from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral and burial will be private. The family requests that memorials be donated to Smile for Brooklyn at P.O. Box 18852, Erlanger, Ky. 41018.
