Jack Moreland, president of Southbank Partners and chair of the Newport Southbank Bridge Company, said the overwhelming success of the free summer concert series prompted event organizers to extend the event.

“We are thrilled that the Party on the Purple has been such a success this summer and we look forward to continuing the fun on the bridge for the rest of August,” Moreland said.

“The Party on the Purple has become Greater Cincinnati’s signature Wednesday night event and we are proud to bring so many people to the Purple People Bridge to have a good time and to help us support this iconic structure in our community.”

A portion of the proceeds from the concert series goes towards repainting and maintaining the 120-year old Purple People Bridge. In addition to continuing the event on Wednesday evenings through August, event organizers also added a separate event on Friday, Aug. 25.

“We decided to add a Friday night concert for people who might not be able to attend the event on Wednesdaynights and also to make it a great way to start the weekend,” said Marc Wertheim, president and CEO of ColdIron Enterprises Inc.

The parties, which are free and open to the public, include music, food trucks, soft drinks, beer, wine, and spirits. Partygoers also can purchase Party on the Purple’s signature purple cocktail made with Svedka Vodka. Glier’s Goetta, Svedka Vodka, Charles Smith Wines, Braxton Beer, Rhinegeist Beer, Hooters, and Beer Sellar are all official sponsors of Party on the Purple.

The Purple People Bridge is owned and operated by the Newport Southbank Bridge Company, a private, nonprofit organization that conducting a capital campaign to raise $1 million to repaint the bridge and maintain the historic structure, which is used by hundreds of thousands of pedestrians and bikers each year.
