Photos: Metzger Eye Care Celebrates 60 Years
Metzger Eye Care is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of their founding by Dr. Ferd J. Metzger, who opened the first optometrist office in Boone County in 1957 on Main Street in Florence.
A celebratory event was held on Saturday with kids games and other fun opportunities at the Florence office.
Dr. Julie Metzger Aubuchon bought the practice from her father in 1995.
“It has been our goal for sixty years to provide exceptional eye care services including offering high quality eye wear and contact lenses," said Metzger-Aubuchon, who is also vice mayor of Florence. "Our practice has remained up to date with the latest technology over the years and that has continued to make us relevant to the healthcare services offered in the community”.
Meztger Eye Care now has two locations, with one in Florence and one in Covington, and twenty employees.
The company has many loyal dedicated patients, including Ms. Patricia Tanner, who has been a patient of the practice since 1958.
“For the past fifty years, a Dr. Metzger has provided my eye and vision care," Tanner said. "At one time, Dr. Ferd Metzger was a young eye doctor with blue eyes and red socks. And while he doesn’t practice anymore, he still wears red socks. Some things never change.” She also shares that Dr. Julie Metzger, OD has expanded the practice and uses advanced diagnostic technology and added a friendly competent staff. “Like her dad, Dr. Julie is personable, professional, thorough and involved in community service.”
Florence Mayor Diane Whalen congratulated Metzger Eye Care on the milestone.
“When a small business can exist, expand and flourish for sixty years, it is indeed an event to be celebrated”, Whalen said. “Congratulations to Metzger Eye Care and to Doctors Fred and Julie for the dedication, hard work and community spirit that has helped drive their success. The City of Florence is proud to be home to such a great legacy business.
"We’re looking forward to helping honor this great success story."
