New Talent Added at 106.7 WNKR
A new voice is coming to Classic Country 106.7 WNKR.
The Dry Ridge-based station announced that Gina Matthews will handle the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. air shift. She began at the station on Monday.
Matthews, a resident of Northern Kentucky since grade school, has been heard on country radio stations in both Cincinnati and Lexington in the past. She also owns and operates her own production company, where she has voiced many commercials heard on local radio and TV airwaves for well over a decade.
Gina, married 22 years with 3 daughters, lives with her family (and a cat) in Union.
“I have worked with Gina in the past. She’s a delightful person and a great addition to the Classic Country 106.7 team," said WNKR Vice President of Programming Peter Zolnowski (Peter Z). "We look forward to her on-air presence, as well as seeing her out and about in the community for personal appearances and live broadcasts."
Matthews replaces local radio veteran Jim LaBarbara, known as "the Music Professor", who left his show at WNKR in the summer to run for Sycamore Township Trustee north of Cincinnati.
WNKR is owned by Grant County Broadcasters and has played country music for 25 years. The company recently entered into an agreement to purchase WNKN-FM from Northern Kentucky University. That transaction, involving the station licensed to Middletown, Oh., is awaiting approval from the Federal Communication Commission.
