Longtime Kenton County Resident Honored by City, Fiscal Court
September 17, 2017 will be known as Ellen Aleda Smallwood in the City of Independence.
The 92-year old has lived in Independence for more than 60 years. She shared a home with her husband, who passed away in May 2015.
Smallwood received a double-dose of honors this week, being recognized at Monday night's Independence City Council meeting and at Tuesday afternoon's Kenton County Fiscal Court meeting.
Smallwood is the oldest living member charter member of Grace Baptist church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and is involved in various other parts of the church.
Friend John Stephenson, who accompanied Smallwood to both meetings, said that she has read her Bible front to back fifty times.
