Suspected Burglar Shoots Self, Dies While Being Chased in Covington

A report of a burglary ended with a suspect wounded in the head late Thursday afternoon.
Covington Police were called to the 100 block of Sixth Street to a residence north of Mother of God Church when the homeowner or tenant reported that someone was inside.
One officer spotted the suspect - a man - inside the residence, and when the man noticed, he bolted.
An officer waiting outside the residence noticed that the man had a gun in his hand and reported to dispatch that he would pursue on foot.
The suspect fled towards Mother of God and when he attempted to scale a small wall, he fell and that's when officers heard the gun go off.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to his head.
On the scene, Covington Police Chief Rob Nader could not offer details on the suspect's condition but said that he was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Later, police reported that the suspect died from his injuries.
Investigators have not yet determined whether the gunshot wound was accidental in nature. The man's identity was not yet released.
Nader said that he expected the investigation to go through the night and that further details would likely be available on Friday.
