Sen. Rand Paul Assaulted in His Home
Senator Rand Paul was allegedly assaulted in his Bowling Green home on Friday afternoon and a man is under arrest.
WBKO reports that Kentucky State Police responded to the scene:
When they arrived, troopers say they discovered that Rene Boucher, 59, of Bowling Green, intentionally assaulted Sen. Rand Paul causing minor injury.
Troopers say Senator Paul was not transported to the hospital.
Rene Albert Bousher, 59, is charged with 4th degree assault and is being held at the Warren County Regional Jail. Media outlets and the jail spell the suspect's last name differently, with the media referring to him as Boucher and the jail as Bousher.
"Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault. The assailant was arrested and it is now a matter for the police," said Kelsey Cooper, state communications director for Office of U.S. Senator Rand Paul.
Senator Paul, a Republican in his second term, is an ophthalmologist from Bowling Green.
