Norse Fall in Rematch at East Tennessee State
Northern Kentucky fell behind early and never recovered in a rematch at East Tennessee State on Wednesday night, losing 84 to 71.
NKU had won the season opener against the Bucs, 81 to 63, in Highland Heights on November 10.
Carson Williams led all scorers with 22 points, hitting 10 of 13 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Lavone Holland II added 14 points and Drew McDonald scored 10.
The Norse pulled close with 8:03 left in the first class after Holland nailed a 3, cutting ETSU's lead to 26 to 23. But the Bucs answered with a 20 to 5 run over the final minutes of the half, to take an 18-point lead at the break.
NKU never threatened again.
In the second half, ETSU led by as many as 21, though NKU cut the lead to 12 with 11:35 to play.
That was as close as the Norse (6-3) would get.
NKU shot 49 percent from the field. East Tennessee State's bench outscoted NKU's subs 42 to 11.
Next up for the Norse is a Sunday evening match-up with Eastern Kentucky at BB&T Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
