NKU to Play FC Cincinnati is Springtime Match

The Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team will host FC Cincinnati in a spring exhibition match on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at NKU Soccer Stadium.

Tickets will go on sale Monday, Jan. 29, and can be purchased via Ticketmaster or by visiting the Alice Sparks Box Office at BB&T Arena. All tickets are $5 and general admission, with seating being first-come, first-served.

“It’s no secret that FC Cincinnati is one of the hottest professional soccer franchises in the country and to be able to host them at NKU Soccer Stadium is invaluable for our program,” said NKU head coach Stu Riddle.

FC Cincinnati advanced to the semifinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2017, and the team has qualified for the USL playoffs in each of the past two seasons.

“My staff and I have been able to form a strong relationship with the FCC coaching staff, and it’s important that we thank them for this opportunity. We thoroughly enjoyed our match against FCC in the fall and hope that the soccer community shows up in droves again in what will be an exciting opportunity for our players,” Riddle stated.

The match with FC Cincinnati is the first exhibition of the spring for the NKU men’s soccer team. The rest of the spring schedule will be announced at a later date.

In Riddle’s first season at NKU, the team finished with a winning record at 7-6-4. Jim Barkei was named the Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year, earning a spot on the Horizon League All-First Team. Harvey Moyes was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team, and Wlademir Babaew earned Horizon League All-Academic Team honors.
