Skyline Chili Closes Downtown Covington Location
The Skyline Chili location at 333 Scott Blvd. in Covington at the Gateway Center building is closed for good.
A sign posted to the door thanked customers for their years of patronage and encouraged them to visit the other Covington location at 617 West Third Street.
It had been rumored for weeks that the location was closing. The sign indicated that it shut down on Friday, January 26. This location is typically patronized by downtown office workers, especially those employed by the IRS, and is not open on the weekends.
The IRS is eliminating most of its Covington-based jobs when it shuts down the flat-top building next year, but its workers at the Gateway Center are expected to stay.
A spokesperson for Skyline Chili could not be immediately reached for comment.
The Gateway Center sold in 2014 for more than $82 million in one of Northern Kentucky's largest-ever real estate transactions. American Realty Capital Properties bought it from its original developer, the Wessels Construction & Development Company.
The closure of Skyline leaves just two restaurants on the ground level of the sprawling building, Nick & Tony's Double Deckers and an Asian buffet.
