Trackhoe Saved from Rising Water in Covington
As the Ohio River rises past its flood stage - and will continue to through Wednesday, leaving the region under a flood warning till Friday - a local contracting firm had to come rescue a piece of equipment.
Work has been underway to stabilize the riverbank along Riverside Drive in Covington for months.
A trackhoe that had been part of the work was left in an ominous position as the river slowly began to approach the sidewalk where it was placed.
Smith Construction, which owns the vehicle and is working on the new retaining walls going up in that area, returned to the site Monday afternoon and towed it away.
The Ohio River is expected to reach nearly 56 feet by Wednesday. Flood stage is 52 feet.
