NKY Students Walk Out of School to Protest Gun Violence
Students from Simon Kenton High School walked out of class and the building on Wednesday to protest gun violence.
There are reports that students at Scott High School walked out, too.
RCN intern Becca Wallace, a student at the Kenton County School District, covered the walk-out at Simon Kenton in Independence.
Kenton County Schools spokesperson Jessica Dykes told RCN that students organized the walk-out themselves. Local police and district officials were on site to monitor the situation.
The walk-out follows last week's deadly shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida in which seventeen students and adults were gunned down in the nation's latest mass shootings. Students from that school have since become outspoken advocates for new gun control measures, frequently appearing in the media and traveling to the Flordia state legislature demanding a change.
