Meyer Named Head Coach of Newport Catholic Girls Basketball

Ralph Meyer is the new head coach at the Newport Central Catholic girls basketball program.

He replaces George Stoll, who stepped down at the end of this past season.

Meyer has been on the NCC boys coaching staff for 15 seasons, serving as head coach of the freshman team. He was part of 11 All A regional championship teams, 3 All A state champions, and one 9th Region title, which resulted in a semifinal appearance in the Kentucky Sweet 16.

Meyer is a 1998 graduate of Newport Central Catholic where he played basketball and baseball all four years.

“We are sad to see George Stoll step down from coaching, but we feel very fortunate to have Ralph Meyer to step in as his replacement," said NCC Athletic Director Jimmy Ryan. "Ralph has 15 years of coaching experience at New Cath and his knowledge of the game, work ethic, and passion will provide for a smooth transition.

“I am beyond excited for the opportunity to take over the girls basketball program at NCC," Meyer said. "I want to thank (prinicpal) Ron Dawn and Jimmy Ryan for their confidence and belief in me to build on the already established winning tradition in our girls basketball program.”

Meyer attended Northern Kentucky University and the Ohio Center for Broadcasting and has a degree in broadcasting. He lives in Alexandria with his wife, Bridget, and their children, Ella, 14, Leah, 12, and Jonathan, 9.
