Bevin: I Guarantee a Child Was Sexually Abused Today Because of School Closures

The Kentucky General Assembly voted Friday to override vetoes by Governor Matt Bevin, who responded afterwards by alleging that children in the state were physically and sexually abused because they were left home alone after many school districts closed for the day so that teachers could advocate in favor of the legislature's vote.

WDRB reporter Marcus Green shared a video of the governor's statement via Twitter:

Bevin also targeted former House Speaker Jeff Hoover, a fellow Republican who stepped down from that post but retained his seat in the House following a secret settlement of a sexual harassment lawsuit against him and three other GOP representatives.

Republicans control both houses of the General Assembly and the governor's office in Frankfort.
